05/16/06 Wow! It's been a long time by the looks of that last entry. If you haven't heard yet you can see from the new photos that we've had baby number 4! Hugo Edward Lafferty Petersen (is it a cry for H.E.L.P.?).
Also, I'll be starting a 'real job' over here in Glasgow this September. I'll be a 'CU Staff Worker' for uccf:christianunions (www.uccf.org.uk). UCCF stands for Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship. I'll be helping to disciple and support the Christian Unions of 4 or 5 univesities and colleges in Glasgow. UCCF have a brilliant worldclass apologetics & culture website at www.bethinking.org that I highly recommend.
I do have to raise a substantial portion of my salary for this job so financial support is still very welcome and much appreciated. If you'd like to receive more info in order to pray for us in this ministry and/or financially support us, then contact us on this site or email us at macpetersen5@yahoo.com.

04/05/04 Well, Andrea and I have finally seen *The Passion of the Christ*. Though having some artistic and theological quibbles we found the film powerful overall - very intense indeed, but the kind that's worth it.
The main thing that I walked away with was that it seems clear that Mel Gibson believes the historical figure Jesus Christ chose of his own freewill to suffer and be crucified, proclaiming that this very thing was the Jewish God's plan to punish the sins of the whole world and yet save every sinner from every 'people group' who trusts in the Suffering and Risen Messiah.
Since this is the central truth-claim I myself accept as fact and count on as my hope, I find the release and success of this film to be an occasion for rejoicing, and an opportunity to ask and answer questions about the Christian faith.
So far we're holding three discussions about the film in cooperation with the Christian Union and Navigators of the universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde, and Calidonia. There will be a lunchtime cafe discussion on Tue. April 20th from 12-2pm; a discussion in at someone's flat on the evening of Wed. April 21st; and a discussion at the Hog's Head pub in city centre on the evening of Thur. April 22nd. A discussion is also in the works with the Art School, probably for Friday April 23rd.
We're eager to see how these will go and what kind of discussion they will generate.
Feel free to comment on the film below.
